Why does Excel Canada exist?
Most Excel templates online are built for the U.S. market: dates in MM/DD/YYYY, amounts in U.S. dollars, sales tax instead of GST/HST, and columns that do not match anything a Canadian business actually needs.
So you end up rebuilding the thing for half an afternoon anyway.
Excel Canada does the opposite: Every template is made from the start for Canadian conditions — GST/HST rates, Canadian dollars, business-number fields, Canadian date format and references to the rules that actually apply here. Download, open, and get going.
The people behind the templates
Emily Tremblay
CPA, bookkeeping & tax templates
A Canadian CPA with over a decade in small-business bookkeeping. Emily checks that every accounting template lines up with GST/HST, CRA filing requirements and the Canadian fiscal year before it goes live.
David MacKenzie
Spreadsheet specialist & project lead
David builds and stress-tests the formulas. He has spent years turning messy operational data into spreadsheets people can actually use, with a focus on clean layouts that print and share well.
How we work
Canadian from the first cell
Dates in YYYY-MM-DD, amounts in Canadian dollars, GST/HST, room for a business number. Bookkeeping templates keep the CRA in mind; HR templates keep provincial employment standards in mind.
Tested before it goes live
Every file is opened and reviewed before release: do the formulas work, do the totals add up, does it look right in print? We would rather have fewer templates that work than a hundred half-finished ones.
Free with no asterisk
No fine print. The file you download is the whole file — with every tab, formula and function. Ads on the site pay the bill, not your contact details.
Users decide what comes next
When several people write in needing the same kind of template, it moves to the top of the list. The best ideas come from people facing a real problem.
Who uses the templates?
Our templates are downloaded by everyone from sole proprietors to non-profits and departments in larger companies. Typically:
- Self-employed and freelancers — invoices, mileage logs, GST/HST overviews and budgets without having to buy accounting software from day one
- Small businesses — staff schedules, inventory, cash-flow budgets and timesheets, ready to share with the accountant
- Non-profits and volunteers — member lists, dues tracking, event budgets and expense logs
- Individuals — household budgets, savings goals, mortgage overviews and planning anything from a wedding to a move
What they all have in common: they do not want to spend an evening setting up a spreadsheet. We have done that for them.
